JW BENSON POCKET WATCH

B6264

JW BENSON antique gold filled open faced pocket watch in fine running condition.  This is a Swiss made stem wind and stem set watch movement and movement is signed J W Benson, 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill, London BY WARRANT TO HER MAJESTY THE LATE QUEEN VICTORIA.

JW Benson originated in 1847 and was founded by James William Benson and Samuel S. Benson who were regarded as one of London’s most prestigious retail jewelers during Victorian times.  They also manufactured their own movements and their company boasted a clientele of British and European Kings, Queens and Princes including of course Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales. Their Belle Sauvage Yard was hit during a bombing raid during  WW1 and subsequently, movements were purchased from a number of high-quality movement houses in Switzerland including Tavannes, Revue and Longines.  Both the British and Swiss made movements are desirable and equal in quality as well being highly collectible.

The signed  JW Benson, London white enamel dial is excellent with black Roman numbers and gold spade pointers.  Sub seconds dial at number six position.  Seconds hand has a slight very slight bend to it.  The case is 50mm in diameter and was made in Britain by the Dennison Watch Case Company. It is gold filled and in very good condition with the engine turned details still extremely crisp.  Watch movement is protected by an inner dust cover.  A very good looking and collectible pocket watch for your collection or to wear.
